Penguins, pirates, and anomaly on October 24th

 

With the Penguin 3.0 rollout, we also had Pirate 2. And yes, there are some websites that can be affected by both. It added a layer of complexity to the situation, but nothing that was going to kill. You see, I picked up a very strange anomaly on October 24th. And I clearly saw serious movement that day (late ET).

So, if there was a third algorithm update, that’s three potential algorithm updatesایک دم. More on that soon, but it points to the confusion that can arise when we see an extended rollout with a mix of confirmed and unconfirmed updates.

Penguin 3.0 shocks and analysis

Since I do a lot of Penguin work, and have  special database researched many of the domains affected by Penguin in the past, I studied the Penguin 3.0 rollout a lot. I  published a blog post based on the first ten days of the update , which certainly included some interesting findings.

And based on the extended rollout, I definitely saw Penguin jolts after the October 17 launch. For example, see the screenshot below of a website seeing the Penguin impact on October 17, 22, and 25.

But as mentioned earlier, something else happened on October 24th that set off sirens in my office.

And an incredibly disappointing day for the 9/5 recovery that went south on 10/24:
